Research Technology
I’m doing a major rework of my website. This section is a little outdated and will be revised. But until then, it may be a useful resource.
Open-source Syringe Pump
I created an open-source syringe pump for my research in animal behavior. I designed the pump to precisely deliver liquid reinforcers to animals and to be easily controlled from a microcontroller interface such as the Propeller Experiment Controller. The pump costs about $173 and can be easily assembled from ServoCity's modular Actobotics line. Only three specialized 3D printed parts are needed. I provide a full parts lists, mechanical and electronics assembly instructions, and programming suggestions.
This page provides resources related to the Propeller Experiment Controller. I offer free, open-source software that enables any Parallax Propeller microcontroller to excel in the role of an experiment controller. The purpose of the Propeller Experiment Controller is to make any form of computer-controlled automation and data recording easy and affordable. The software is free, and the Propeller microcontroller costs less than $100. The Propeller Experiment Controller was designed to primarily to conduct automated research experiments on learning and behavior in humans and animals. However, it is also useful in a wider variety of situations, including automated training devices, automated enrichment devices and classroom demonstrations.
